Hello all! I have a Gameboy SP (001) and have had it since about 5th grade (2005) and it sat unused for quite a few years. I recently picked it back up to play Pokemon rom hacks on actual hardware rather than my phone, because touch screen D-pad can be frustrating.
Higher capacity batteries are better for IPS mods simply because you get more play time. AGS 101/AGS 001 both last longer as well, but the IPS doesn't last nearly as long on a stock 650mAh battery, compared to something like the Makho battery which is 900~mAh. Remove the 6 Tripoint screws holding the case together. Pry the 2 halves apart. Do not force it though, or you may break your GBA. Set the bottom half away for later. Be sure not to lose the small, square nut that hold the battery compartment nut in or else you will not be able to screw the battery compartment in. Add a comment.
Serious now, if you have a gbaSP you can fit a DS (first model) battery without trimming the shell (need to trim just 2 tiny plastic pieces from the battery), and that is going to give you some more juice to play with. (600mah vs 850 or 950, cant remember) I get around 6 hours on a full battery, sound off and medium brightness.
